From national level competitions and international training camps to mass participation Olympic-celebratory events, there’s something for everyone in this Olympic year.

A number of major sporting events will be staged in Medway during the year. The biggest sporting event will be the British Transplant Games, a four-day multi-sport festival featuring some 600 competitors and 1,500 supporters from around the country. The competition will focus on Medway Park and runs from 23 to 26 August 2012.

Other major events already confirmed for 2012 include ETTA Table Tennis National Veterans League  on 28 and 29 January; GBWR Wheelchair Rugby Super Series on 17 and 18 March; England Basketball National League play-off finals on 14 April; and the Olympic torch relay on 20 July.

During the build up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Medway will also be hosting Pre-Games training camps for Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

If you’re feeling inspired to get active in 2012, there’s plenty of sporting events and activities you can get involved in.

The biggest participatory event of the year will be the sixth annual Medway Mile, taking place on Friday, 27 July to mark the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Join thousands of people completing the one mile fun run before watching the opening ceremony from the Olympic stadium on a big screen in Rochester Castle Gardens.

Other events include Sport Relief events in March, the Donor Run as part of the British Transplant Games and other activities and events through out the year at Medway’s leisure centres and green spaces.
