Medway Festivals
Medway boasts a wealth of festivals throughout the year, celebrating Medway’s colourful past and celebrating its exciting present. From Status Quo to Bollywood dancers and Tiny Tim to Will Adams, you have to see it to believe it.
Proud of its association with Charles Dickens, Medway host the annual Dickens Festival every June and the festive Dickensian Christmas in December. Dickens’ characters are brought to life by the people of Medway and through a unique combination of music, dance, drama and street theatre. For two weeks every June, Fuse Medway Festival fills Medway’s venues, streets and open spaces with some of the world's most exciting, innovative and inspiring artists. See it, hear it, be part of it.
It takes a special kind of event to last more than a quarter of a century. Medway's Sweeps Festival, with its incredible selection of musical entertainment, an ever-expanding range of activities and worldwide popularity, goes from strength to strength each year and stands the test of time. Local chimney sweeps, Morris sides and folk groups from all over the UK join in the fun.
A celebration of Will Adams and his connection with Medway takes over Gillingham every September. Celebrating Japanese culture and arts, it is an event not to be missed.
Rochester Castle provides the magnificent setting for Castle Concerts, Medway Council’s summer music festival. The line-up for 2010 includes Status Quo and the Castle Proms with more acts to be announced in 2010. And don't miss Under Siege - putting Medway's young talent in the limelight at Rochester Castle every July.
