Venue information

Entry to Rochester Castle Gardens

Rochester Castle Gardens will be open as usual during the day. The gates will close to the public from 4pm. Gates open at 5.30pm and the opening act starts at 7.30pm, except for The Proms, which starts at 7.15pm. Medway Council reserves the right to close the gates earlier than 4pm, if necessary. People who do not have tickets will be asked to leave. The gates will then re-open and only people holding tickets will be admitted from then on.

Medway Council reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone.

Unaccompanied children

Medway Council is not responsible for unaccompanied children in Rochester Castle Gardens during Castle Concerts 2012. It is a parental / guardian responsibility.

Time of performance

Onstage entertainment is scheduled to start at 7.30pm.

Food and drink at the venue

A range of hot and cold snacks are available in Rochester Castle Gardens. Two bars, selling alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, will be open during the concerts. They will close 30 minutes before the end of each concert.

You may bring food and drink into the venue but please do not take glass items, including bottles and wine glasses into the grounds. Not more than one litre of beer or wine per person is permitted.

Barbecues, gas cylinders or flaming torches are strictly prohibited.

Toilets

As well as the public toilets in Rochester Castle Gardens there will also be portable toilets placed around the grounds. Additional toilets are available at Northgate outside the castle grounds. This is a three-minute walk. A pass-out system will be in operation to enable you to re-enter Rochester Castle Gardens.

Pets and animals

No animals will be admitted (except guide dogs).

Bad weather

The concerts will take place irrespective of prevailing weather conditions, so please be prepared for all weather.

Travelling by car

Rochester is just 30 miles from central London and 40 miles from the channel ports and Eurotunnel. It can be easily reached via major motorways:

  • From the north, south and west via the M25/A2/M2, M2 junction 2 (or alternatively via M25/M26/M20, junction 4 for A228 or junction 6 for A229)
  • From the east, channel ports and Eurotunnel via the M20, junction 6 for A229 or via A2/M2, junction 2.

Public transport

The venue can be reached by a walk of about 10 minutes from both Rochester and Strood railway stations. A number of bus routes also serve the venue.

Road closures

There will be some disruption to roads around the venue. Further information will be available nearer the time of the concerts.


Access, tickets and accommodation

Disabled access and facilities

Disabled ticket-holders can be dropped off at the castle entrance (main gate) but vehicles will have to be parked elsewhere.

For disabled ticket-holders registered with the blue badge scheme, parking spaces are available as designated in the Blue Boar and Cathedral Garage car parks.

A raised ramped area is available for wheelchair users. This is next to the mixing tower, central to the stage within Rochester Castle Gardens. Please speak to an event steward for assistance

Tickets

Tickets will not be refunded, exchanged or replaced for any reason. Medway Council reserves the right to make minor changes to the line-up without prior notification.

Everyone attending the concert must buy a ticket which will need to be produced to gain admission. This includes children and babies.

A security search may be carried out before entering the arena. Medway Council reserves the right to refuse admission to any person.

  • Medway Council is not responsible for unaccompanied children in Rochester Castle Gardens during Castle Concerts 2012. It is a parental/guardian responsibility.
  • Medway Council reserves the right to make minor changes to the line-up without notification. On-stage entertainment is scheduled to start at 7.30pm., except for The Proms, which starts at 7.15pm.
  • Collapsible tables and chairs will be permitted.
  • A raised ramped area is available for wheelchair users. This is next to the mixing tower, central to the stage within Rochester Castle Gardens. Please speak to an event steward for assistance.
  • A limited number of chairs will be issued on a first come, first served basis.
  • Tents, awnings or any other structures are not permitted. 
  • No animals will be admitted.
  • There is a full bar service on site. However, alcoholic drink can be taken into the grounds in reasonable quantities but anything deemed as excessive may be confiscated.
  • Glass items, including bottles and wine glasses are prohibited in the grounds.
